Ok, confession. I am a serious chocolate lover. There’s nothing like indulging on a decadent piece of dark chocolate at the end of the day. Am I right?
My sweet tooth–and my emotions–used to lead me straight to a big bowl of ice cream or a gluten-free brownie. But over the years, I’ve learned that too much sugar isn’t good for my immune system, my skin, or my energy levels.
Although I’ve tried to cut these goodies out of my life entirely, I’ve realized it’s not sustainable or fun. The solution? I’ve steered myself in a healthier direction by choosing the very best sweet treats–free of chemicals, additives, and yucky unnecessary ingredients.
So if you’re a fellow sweet tooth or want to add some healthier chocolate as a treat, I’ve got an arsenal of super delish bars of goodness. These brands have gone above and beyond to make the most decadent, healthified confections on the planet (in my opinion).
Coco Polo (Dark chocolate elderberry): I freaked out when I found this brand. My friend Nicole Jardim (a fellow wellness warrior) introduced it to me because I was dying for good chocolate after going off sugar. When I found it at my local health food store, I bought 5 bars at once. Why it rocks: You taste the richness of dark chocolate, but the elderberry adds a tiny bit of tart, and the stevia balances it out with just the right sweetness.
Hu Kitchen (puffed quinoa almond butter): I met Jordan Brown, the co-founder of Hu Kitchen when it first opened here in NYC and instantly connected with his passion for healthy, accessible, Paleo food. This chocolate only has 4 ingredients and it’s so good. Why it rocks: I love peanut butter cups, so this is my healthy equivalent.
Nibmor (Sea salt, dark chocolate): I met Nibmor co-founder Heather K. Terry at one of my events. I love her chocolate and I love supporting her. It’s always great to see someone doing awesome work and succeeding. Why it rocks: It nixes any sweet and salty craving–like that!
Green & Black’s (Mint): I love mint chocolate and since I stopped indulging in a carton of mint chip ice cream, this has become my fix. It’s so rich and creamy and delicious. Why it rocks: The mint flavor comes from peppermint oil so it has an intense mint flavor which I love. It doesn’t feel superficial.
Is your mouth watering right now? Because mine is. Go out and try one or all of these amazing chocolate concoctions. I promise you will thank me. And if you have a favorite sweet treat or chocolate brand, please share it in the comments below! As one fellow chocolate lover to another, I need to know about these things 🙂
